The Dumb Head That I Am!

Be like mr bean

It was our farewell day and three wonderful years of college life had come to an end. On that day I was asked to tell about my experience and this is what I told, “I always knew how dumb I was and I
did something about it.” Though I spoke more than this, it’s not relevant here.

Even today I’ll say the same thing, “I know how dumb I am and I’m doing something about it.” That’s one of the things that helped me stand apart from the crowd even though I wasn’t that talented.

As Albert Einstein puts it, “I have no special talents. I am only passionately curious.”

When I said I did something about it, I mean it. I wasn’t any good in my school days but after joining college, I started to read business magazines, newspapers, articles, and books and would not move to the next one, until I finish reading it completely. Going that extra mile is always worth it, maybe it won’t benefit you today, not tomorrow or even in a year but definitely someday in the future. There were times when I would ask myself, why am I wasting all my time (not all my time really!) on these things. But I always knew in the back of my mind that, “You can’t connect the dots looking forward but you can only connect the dots looking backward.” One thing is for sure, you’ll never regret being “long time greedy”.

So apart from the usual people, I should thank the editors and authors of these magazines, newspapers, articles, and books, if today I’m employed in one of the most reputed companies in the world.

But also I’ll always keep in mind that, that this does not guarantee me success in the future because learning is an ongoing process and the world is changing at a fast pace and you need to keep pace with it or go one step better, be ready for it. It’s like the more I know, the more I know how much I don’t know.

In your quest for scoring marks, never forget that knowledge is an ocean and the “formal” education that you are getting is just a drop in it.

…..Nostalgia takes over me, when I remember my farewell speech, “I always knew how dumb I was and I did something about it.” It’s time you too do something about it.

“The difference between genius and stupidity is; genius has its limits.” – Albert Einstein
